One of the more interesting day one announcements from CES came from Samsung Electronics. But it wasn’t a new product. Instead the company announced a partnership with DropBox, a free document and rich media sharing service.
Samsung announced an integration deal that will feature DropBox with several new devices such as the Galaxy Grand smartphone and Smart cameras, which are expected to be released sometime this year.
According to DropBox, this marks the next step in the partnership between the two companies that saw the service inside devices such as the Galaxy S III, Note II, and the Galaxy camera.
Lars Fjeldsoe-Nielsen, head of mobile business development at Dropbox, said Dropbox and Samsung share a common goal when it comes to connectivity across devices. We believe that the things that matter most to people should be accessible at all times. Extending the relationship with Samsung from mobile phones to cameras gives users more opportunities to access and share photos, videos and documents, regardless of what device they are on.
Beginning in March 2013, Dropbox will also be integrated on Samsung PCs and a number of Samsung Smart cameras being released throughout 2013.
When used on the Note II, users were able to upload every photo or video taken automatically to a Dropbox folder eliminating the need to hook up cables or remove SD cards.
