Kaspersky Lab has a new division that will work with its corporate sales team and channel partners specifically for Government and Education markets.

The new division will be called the SLED team; SLED stands for State, Local Education Division. The company said that following 25 per cent growth in its public sector business in 2012, Kaspersky Lab launched this new team to meet the growing demand and help public sector organizations meet their growing IT and security challenges.

The SLED team is led by Jeff Gaffny, director of sales for SLED in North America. Gaffny joined Kaspersky Lab in January 2013 and reports into Matt Goulet, vice president, SME sales for Kaspersky Lab, North America. Gaffny has close to a decade of experience in selling network security solutions to the public sector and he has knowledge and expertise addressing the public sector issues. Prior to joining Kaspersky Lab, Gaffny was the director of sales at Awareness Inc., and preceding that he was the regional sales manager at Sophos where he was an instrumental part of starting the company’s public sector team in 2004.

In addition to Gaffny’s appointment, Kaspersky Lab has hired a number of new sales representatives exclusively dedicated to working with public sector organizations. Part of the strategy for SLED is to offer exclusive discounted pricing to the public sector.

Goulet said the public sector faces different challenges than the private sector—from a smaller staff to constant downward pressure on IT budgets. The launch of our new SLED division shows our commitment to addressing those challenges and to ensuring public sector customers have a customized experience and solution.
