Symantec outlines vision for safe clouds

Security vendor unveils new products for its safe, agile and efficient clouds initiativernrn rn

Symantec Corp. announced its vision for safe, agile and efficient clouds.

That vision has five year quest for companies to operate in a converged IT world of cloud, virtualization and mobile computing where clouds are safe. According to the Cupertino, Calif.-based security vendor, IT organizations will have better visibility, control and compliance across their private and public clouds. To get there, Symantec extends its security, data storage and information management expertise to help companies transition to safe clouds of the future.

There is a big channel play with this vision. Symantec Canada is making additional resources available so that channel partners deliver on this “safe cloud” vision. Examples include:

CloudSmart e-learning course, which is a tool for channel partners looking to break into the cloud space; more than 300 solution providers have recently completed the course.

Symantec Cloud Security Essentials Training shares critical cloud knowledge and best practices on building and protecting clouds to help customers design and architect a comprehensive cloud data security strategy, based on Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) guidelines.

And, Symantec’s enhanced subscription-based licensing program (ExSP ) for purchasing Symantec solutions through a subscription-based model. ExSP, Symantec claims, reduces the licensing fees as the partner’s business volume increases.

A survey conducted by Symantec showed that between public, private and hybrid deployments, 23 per cent of business information globally is being stored in the cloud. Advanced cyber attacks by governments and crime syndicates will likely target highly profitable data centrer and high profile clouds.

Francis deSouza, group president, Enterprise Products and Services, Symantec, said Symantec has proven solutions with industry leading technologies to protect companies, information and people. Wherever companies go with clouds, Symantec will provide the protection and control they need across public and private cloud environments.
