LAS VEGAS – Synnex North American president Peter Larocque believes distribution is playing a key role in changing the direction of IT spending away from CapEx and OpeX decisions.
He told the audience at the VARNex Conferences that it’s time to “make IT cool again.”
According to Larocque, these past three years has seen a market where its software driven and people driven. But now it’s time to make IT special again by providing the ability to order anywhere and get analytics where you are able to track anything you do.
In the last three years IT decisions have been principally made to reduce capital expenses with either a CapEx or OpeX strategy. “With digital transformation; IT has become cool again.”
Larocque added that people are moving towards a mainstream acceptance of machine-to-machine solutions and he has seen be a part of the back office IT and now it’s moving into the front office.
And, this trend is one of the building blocks of the digital transformation in many sectors.
“The self-driven car is beyond belief and it will take in communications and analytics and it does not stop there,” he said.
Synnex forecasts has the 3rd platform business at $5.3 trillion worldwide and this includes big data, cloud and Internet of Things (IoT). For Synnex they have made an investment towards combining mobility with IoT. The investment also includes an expansion of its Greenville, S.C. facility for IoT.
But Synnex is also going deep with its mobility and IoT direction and has created a Public Safety unit inside its MobilitySolv program that can address other industries such as healthcare, manufacturing.
“I saw the first ever (self-driving) 18-wheeler carrying beer across Colorado. This has occurred already. It could be dangerous and you would hope to try and avoid that 18-wheeler, but IoT is driving that,” he said.
For the Canadian channel, Larocque told CDN that Canadian budgets are flush with dollars for public safety. “These are good years to drive that spend in Canada and the U.S. on infrastructure,” he said.
Further to that Synnex is also moving to develop more solutions for hybrid cloud, software defined networking and containers, which is the next phase of virtualization with its vendor partners.
Larocque has estimated that these types of solutions could produce 22 billion meaningful devices and 60 billion other devices. “And, securing that driverless car is going to be important.”
