VAR Bits-Microsoft to acquire Whale

REDMOND, Wash. – Microsoft Corp. hopes to broaden its secure access solution offering with the acquisition of Whale Communications Ltd., a provider of secure access products, including secure sockets layer (SSL), virtual private networks (VPN) and Web application firewalls.

Whale’s solutions provide remote access, deep content inspection and granular access control, enabling businesses to protect corporate applications and data when accessed remotely by mobile workers, partners and customers.

Microsoft said Whale’s Intelligent Application Gateway and Application Optimizers will add complementary SSL VPN and comprehensive application-layer filtering capabilities to Microsoft’s existing secure access solutions built around Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA Server).

Stampede Canada adds field sales force
MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Stampede Canada, a value-added distributor of presentation and home theatre technology, has announced the addition of a field sales force. The company has hired Silvio Spina as its national field sales manager. Spina will be responsible for developing strategic sales initiatives as well as managing and expanding the national field sales force.

Sierra Systems acquires TkMC
VANCOUVER — Sierra Systems Group has announced its decision to acquire Edmonton-based TkMC (Turnkey Management Consulting) which focuses on providing independent, objective management advice and implementation support to public and private sector organizations.

TkMC has 28 employees and annual revenues of approximately $4.8 billion.
