A new collaboration between VMWare and Adaptiva will help VMWare customers move their older PCs over to Windows 10 and next-generation PC management in the cloud using Adaptiva’s peer-to-peer (P2P) technology.
The two companies will combine VMWare AirWatch Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) and Adaptiva OneSite P2P systems management. This will allow companies to speed up the process of deploying PC software on modern Windows 10 architecture – and save some money in the process.
Perhaps the biggest selling point for the use of both of these technologies is the lack of disruption to the end-user. Due to cloud content delivery networks, software and files being moved can be cached in an unused space on end-user PCs without locking out the person using the device. By adding P2P systems management to the equation, through P2P caching those same software or files can be shared locally to other peers who need that same content.
This could potentially improve network bandwidth utilization, as well as lower administrative overhead for IT by eliminating any on-premises distribution and storage servers.
The collaboration wouldn’t end here, with both companies looking to improve on this solution already. For instance, the VMWare AirWatch UEM solution includes features like configuration management, OS patch management, software distribution for traditional Win32 applications, and client health and security management. This collaboration could eventually include those features as well in this new solution.
“Our collaboration with Adaptiva will offer software distribution speed and cost-savings to VMWare AirWatch UEM customers that will be difficult to match in the industry,” said vice president of product marketing, mobile products, and end-user computing at VMWare, Blake Brannon, in a statement. “As the collaboration continues, we believe the integration could also offer additional benefits in the future to help organizations optimize OS and security patching, and content delivery.”
