Ingram Micro (NYSE: IM) took a saying from the popular Sesame Street character Kermit the Frog: “It’s not easy being green” to describe its efforts on the part of the environment.
According to the company based in Santa Ana, Calif., being green is now part of the company culture and a major factor in the way it does business.
To that end, Ingram released its first ever social responsibility report. The report is part of Ingram Micro’s Smart Steward, Smart Citizen initiative and the company wants the market to know that its one of the only technology distributors to track and publicly report its sustainability commitment.
In that report, Ingram joined the EPA Climate Leaders and was able to inventory its carbon emissions for years 2009 and 2010 last year with a decrease of 5.7 per cent year-over-year.
Also in 2010, Ingram renewed its partnership with EPEAT, the international standard for registered green electronics, and improved search functionality for customers so they could find EPEAT products online.
Ingram received 14001 certification for its effective environment management system in operations in North America which follows Ingram Micro Sweden’s 2009 certification, according to the report.
Ingram maintained WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) compliance throughout its operations.
And, Ingram associates have been actively engaged in their local communities, donating more than $1 million to local charities in 2010.
