Many readers have been wondering about the status of Peter Diniz, Bell Microproducts Canada president now that the Avnet acquisition of Bell is final.
I have asked a few sources about it and Diniz is still with the company. It looks as if Avnet will need some more time to fully execute its integration plan for Bell Micro. With that in play Diniz’ future with the organization remains the same as before the acquisition.
Avnet notified Bell Micro shareholders that a small percentage of their convertible subordinated notes would go through a “Change in Control” procedure as a result of the merger between the companies, but nothing else.
Company leaders are unable to discuss future plans until everything is in place and staff is notified. This, of course, only leads to speculation and my sources have a gut feel that Diniz is already pondering his future, a future outside Bell or Avnet.
I only hope that whatever he chooses to do that he leaves with no regrets. It’s hard for anyone who has devoted so much time and effort to a business or cause to suddenly leave it for something else.
Sometimes a person’s role defines them and it’s hard to break free from that. I recently spoke to two executives about career changes, one from Microsoft and the other from HP Canada. Both Allison Watson, the former channel chief of Microsoft, who is leaving a role she basically defined for another inside the company and Paul Tsaparis, long time HP Canada president agreed that while it’s tough to leave they’re looking forward to the new challenges ahead of them. Both said that to grow as an executive and as a leader you must challenge yourself and try new things.
I’m convinced that whatever Diniz does he will be successful at it. CDN wishes him the best.
