Social technology and enterprise social media is a trendy topic in IT circles and CIOs are beginning to make investments in platforms, but new research from IBM Corp. indicates getting middle managers to actually make use of the tools is a challenge.
According to a report from CRM Daily, the IBM research indicates that while 46 per cent of companies invested in social technology in 2012, just 22 per cent were confident their managers could incorporate the tools into daily business processes.
“Businesses are struggling to make sense of the vast amount of data generated from social networks,” said Kevin Custis, vice-president and global leader social business and mobility services at IBM Global Business Services. “To transform a vision into a reality, executive leadership must guide middle management on the value of being a social business, and build companywide support for the use of social practices across organizational functions.”
