BARCELONA, SPAIN – Vertica is HP’s new big data play. The Vertica Analytics Platform will be part of the newly released HP Converged Systems 300.
Vertica is owned by Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP as part of a 2011 acquisition and run as an HP business unit inside Software Group.
Vertica Analytics Platform takes a holistic approach to big data and augments existing enterprise data warehouses such as Teradata.
“Vertica is for tackling big data that’s unstructured and partially structured and creates insights for making business decisions. We found that current solutions are too complex and adds extra costs. With Vertica can get inside a Teradata and offload the data and provide business value and accelerate the time to decision model,” said Jeff Carlat, director of product management converged systems for HP.
While HP is positioning Vertica as an HP company, its part of HP’s Software Group, said Doug Oathout, vice president, global marketing channel partner, alliances and OEM enterprise marketing, for HP.
The channel strategy for Vertica is that it will be part of the PartnerOne umbrella program and solution providers in the silver and gold tiers will be offered specials, Oathout said.
The HP Converged Systems 300 with Vertica was released at HP Discover as part of a series of products that started with the Converged Systems 100 on Citrix ZenDesktop, the Converged Systems 700 on VMware and the Converged Systems 700x on Microsoft HyperV.
Carlat added that Vertica will also be offered as packaged solution under the HP HAVEn brand. HAVEn stands for Hadoop, Autonomy, Vertica, Enterprise Security and apps from third party vendors that are built on top of the HAVEn elements.
The HP Converged Systems for Vertica is planned to be available in Spring 2014. Pricing was not announced.
In addition, HP Converged Systems offerings come with a unified support model from HP Proactive Care to provide customers with a single point of accountability for all system components, including third-party software and operating systems. HP Proactive Care support helps clients identify and address IT issues before they cause performance problems, resulting in as much as 66 percent less unplanned downtime, according to the company.
