Toronto – Microsoft Corp. announced a September release date for Windows Server 2012 at its Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) in Toronto on Tuesday, plus a new program to give partners training and software tools to help customers move from VMware’s virtual infrastructure to Microsoft’s cloud.
Windows Server 2012 will be released to manufacturers inAugust, saidSatya Nadella, president of Microsoft’s server and tools business.
“Huge milestone”
“It’s a huge milestone for us,” Nadella told the audience in a keynotepresentation before 16,000 channel partners.
Three new features will be added to Windows Server 2012: high densityWeb sites, virtual machine hosting, and unified self-service managementportal.
The release date of Windows Server 2012 is good news for partnersbecause it creates new business opportunities for them, said analystDarren Bibby, program vice-president of software channels and alliancesresearch at IDC in Toronto.
“(Windows Server features) really powerful tools and this is just theupdated version. Any time there’s a big server release the partnercommunity is excited because this is what they build their solutions ontop of,” Bibby said.
